TandemEd envisions vibrant and thriving African-American communities with a unified narrative about their rich history, present opportunity, and future sustainability. In a time when many of the social change efforts are imported or dictated to African-American communities, and often under a deficit-based view of them, TandemEd supports these communities to lead their own strategies and actions for youth and community development.
Our approach first supports communities in identifying and deploying their own internal assets in education, public health, and economic development and wealth creation. Second, we support them to use a critical lens to consider how they might work in tandem with public institutions and those from beyond their community in a way that is aligned with their community-led efforts. Our strategy includes our signature approach of jumpstarting the community-led efforts with a community-informed marketing and narrative campaign on collective identity, purposes/goals, and values/operating principles (See Sample Below)
While the community – youth, families, and residents – are our core clients, we work alongside them to gain the investments, funding, and responsive practices from justice-oriented and courageous private and public institutions.
